The Seasons of Gloucester

The Seasons of Gloucester

The sun turns with the tide
And time touches the island
To burn the spring with
Summer sun
Until autumn leaves do fall

And in vibrant color
That reflect the last warmth
Before overtaken by frost
In the deep blanketing white

Yet through each storm
We know it will be warmer
When the gentleness of spring
Decides to sprout again
Welcoming back the Sun.

Winter Winddown

Winter Winddown

Airs crowds with dark grey clouds
The sky droops heavy, close to earth
And opens up upon our heads
Starting social hibernation

Freeze human activity
And frost around the locker door knobs
That seal in the warm slow breaths
Of those who sleep inside

The Fall of Gloucester

The Fall of Gloucester

Auburn maple leaves fall down
Swept from beach by briny waves
Or else be blown from the sand
And drift back to the dirt

And brisk winds  walk them on the pavement
Stinging  breezes whip around
And Steal the heat from our cheeks
But loan them rosy color

And soon the world descends to white
Already vibrant summer dies
And we are not in vivid color
But that changes with the tide

Of Sea to See

Of Sea to See

Through the years and winters past
His grandfather and his too
Fed their family from the sea
Throwing themselves to the ocean deep

By strength of backs and sweat of brows
Even as your fingers freeze
Men always go out again
To share what life the sea brings

Nowadays the harbor feeds
Off fish who stay and stare
And we don't win by great sea battle
But profit from it's beauty

Geography

Geography

Around the tree roots
And granite rocks
The roads wind round
From house to home

And dispute communal breaks
We’re connected by the bridge
And we opt for the close relation
Of the island isolation

Salt Water Cauldron

Salt Water Cauldron

Each creek winds back to the beach
And combine in the deep brine
Of the ocean, the mixing pool
And it holds our island

And we run from shore to shore
Barefoot on the barnacles
And are shared blood too shall pool

Out into the ocean

Time of Seasons Haikus

Time of Seasons

The sand washes out
summer after summer day
counting the times past

The sky is dark
The nights goes on forever
Time to hibernate.

The City's Vultures

The City's Vultures

The sky full of sea vultures
And they circle the beach
Calling out accented
To their prey of fish and french fries.

Glosta Voices

Glosta Voices

Yes we know we speak different
We act differently, we eat differently
The islandness makes us different
But only in your eyes.

We think we speak the same
We eat the same, we live the same
Our Island means family
And here we are one.

City lost in the Sea

City lost in the Sea

Here we float in the fishbowl
A glass orb lost at sea
Gaping at each other
Cause there’s nothing new to see.

Dark Clouds of Summer Paradise

Dark Clouds of Summer Paradise
Overcome the dark clouds
Full of ice to blot out the sun
They steal our light away
They soak us on the once summer sands

Goodbye to what once was
Welcome what is to be
In our world of frostbite
A light is lit by friends, neighbors, and family

The Bridge makes us a World

The Bridge makes us a World
We are connected by a bridge
Not to the inland, to the island
And the comfy isolation
Of the townies city

And now there are even more stores
What would you ever leave for
The soft hot sand to the cold sharp snow
Hold you here as a home

Of The Ocean to the City Series of Haikus

Of the Ocean to the City

Sitting on the Rocks
Oceans pulse through granite veins
Gives our island life.

Out in the Ocean
Prosperity washes up
Making our beach town.
